Why Your Vehicle Needs New Brake Pads

Your vehicle’s brake pads have an important job to do. Installed in sets of two on each caliper, the brake pads provide the friction needed to slow and stop your vehicle. As the brake caliper squeezes the two pads against the brake rotor, they heat up and leave behind a small amount of friction material on the rotor and wheels.

The more you use your brakes, the more wear your brake pads will experience throughout their life. If your pads have less than 1/4-inch of material left or if they’re worn down to the brake wear indicator tabs, you’ll need to have them replaced as soon as possible.

What Happens If You Don’t Change Your Brake Pads

Neglecting your pads and rotors can have dire consequences for your vehicle’s safety and overall performance. Once the brake pads wear down to the metal backing, you’ll lose a significant amount of your vehicle’s braking capability, resulting in longer and unsafe stops. You’ll also risk damaging your brake rotors and other parts of your braking system. Needless to say, it’s never a good idea to ignore your brake pads.
