What is a Lower Control Arm?

The lower control arm part of the front suspension of a car and it does help the car to bounce and sway when you drive over bumps. If the frame of a car was rigid, the frame would become damaged easily when you do drive over bumps and holes. The lower control arm helps the suspension to move and to sway easily so that it does not damage the frame and so that the suspension is not going to be damaged overall. The lower control arms can be damaged and broken if you do drive over excessive bumps and holes and are not taking into consideration the road that you are driving on. Lower control arms are a big part of your suspension and they do need to be in good shape for your car to drive well.

Symptoms of a Bad Lower Control Arm

There are some symptoms of a bad lower control arm that you can look for to determine if you need to schedule service. The first is that you may hear clunking or banging noises coming from the control arm, often after you have driven over a bump after you have braked, or if you have turned hard. You might also notice that your car is pulling to one side or other even if you are not touching or guiding the steering wheel. You may also see uneven tire wear or strange wear patterns on your tires or vibration when you do drive which can make it hard to drive. You can drive without a lower control arm but it is going to make damage to the rest of the frame more likely and can cause your car to be very difficult or uncomfortable to drive.
